Punch Robson to help Land Registry pilot e-conveyancing service

A LEGAL firm in the North-East has been selected by Land Registry to help pilot new online services that could speed up conveyancing transactions and help drive down the cost to house buyers and sellers.
Land Registry Direct, Land Registry’s existing online information service for business users, is to be withdrawn in early 2010 and replaced by the Land Registry portal - effectively a gateway to all of the Government agency’s electronic services, including e-conveyancing.
Tees Valley-based Punch Robson was among a leading group of conveyancers, lenders and utility companies asked by Land Registry to help trial the portal before it was made generally available. (more…)

Mech-Tool wins £1.5m Sellafield contract

An engineering company best known for supplying blast and fire protection for the offshore industry has won its first major contract in the nuclear decommissioning market.
Mech-Tool Engineering Limited, of Darlington, will design and build a multi services processing module for the Sellafield nuclear facility in Cumbria. (more…)

SOS signals £2,000 cash drive for sea heroes

GENEROUS legal workers have answered an SOS call from North-East lifeboatmen with a donation of more than £2,000.
Staff at Teesside-based Punch Robson Solicitors took part in a sponsored walk and staged a series of fun themed events on the RNLI’s SOS Day - the lifeboat charity’s biggest annual fundraising event. (more…)

Temporary vacancies increase by third as recession dents confidence

A RECRUITMENT company in the North-East has recorded its biggest increase in temporary vacancies as the worsening economic crisis continues to alter the make-up of the employment market.
Jo Hand Recruitment, which has offices in Middlesbrough and Darlington, has seen demand for temporary workers increase 33% in the three months since the end of November. (more…)
