THE new £68m purpose-built Middlesbrough College can expect a good reception when it opens - thanks to a big contribution by a local office furniture specialist.

Brava Lifestyle Offices is supplying a 75ft reception desk for the £68m college, which is rapidly taking shape at Middlehaven.

The 23-metre desk is being supplied as part of a large parcel of works Brava has been awarded at the college, which also includes supplying furniture for the hair and beauty and travel and tourism departments.

It will provide seating for up to 12 reception staff and is being made to order by Brava as a stunning centrepiece to the college entrance.

Brava specialises in individualised furniture items and the desk is being designed and made to order by time-served craftsmen.

Brava director Eric Lloyd says: “First impressions are always important and, at 75ft, the desk is certain to make a big impression on visitors and will hopefully speak volumes of the modern facilities and creative learning environment the college is developing at Middlehaven.”

Martin Peagam, Assistant Principal (Business Development) at the college, agrees: “Even before we open the building, we are receiving favourable comments about the stunning reception area.

“We are delighted by Brava’s interest and commitment in the design and development of furniture for the new college. Having initially contacted Eric Lloyd about work on the reception area, we are now benefiting from their expertise in other area of the college campus.”

As part of its work for the college’s hair and beauty classrooms, Brava is providing bespoke vanity units and partitioning between cubicles; and is making customer-facing furniture and storage facilities for its Travel Shop, where travel agency Coliseum Travel operates with the assistance of travel and tourism students.

It is also supplying a metal storage system for lecturers’ course books, records and personal belongings.

Mr Lloyd added: “I think it is good that a local company has been given the chance to deliver on what is undoubtedly a prestigious project for the area.”
