The Mullacott Installation

ALVESTA ENERGY LIMITED, designers, manufacturers and installers of renewable energy systems, is walking the talk with the installation of one of its own nine metre high lattice-masted wind turbines at its Mullacott, North Devon headquarters. The installation, which is temporary, will allow Alvesta to test different wing configurations and collect power output data in varying wind conditions.

A six-blade turbine will provide up to 10kW of electricity which, when used in conjunction with the existing underfloor heating, solar panels and air-source heat pump, will also make the entire facility virtually carbon neutral.

“With demand for our wind energy technology growing exponentially, we needed to build a test installation that would enable us to both demonstrate the technology and to measure the effect of different blade and alternator combinations,” said Alvesta’s Paul King.

“The wind turbine, which took just three days to erect, will also enable us to obtain important power production data.

“Interest in our UK designed and manufactured wind turbine technology is attracting global attention, driven primarily by the spiralling costs of fossil fuels which show no signs of abating,” added Paul.

“In addition to wind, Alvesta is investing in the development of other renewable energy technologies including bio-digestion and solar power. Our aim is to establish a position of leadership for Alvesta in these crucially important areas of technology.”
