YARM GALLERY, one of the region’s fastest growing venues for contemporary art, has brought its framing service under the same roof.

The Framing Centre, which began life in a factory unit on Teesside Industrial Estate, has taken over the second floor of the gallery in Winpenny House, High Street, Yarm.

“A bespoke framing service is a key part our aim to make art more accessible to North-East people, whether they are looking to display a piece of work they have bought or something they have created themselves,” says gallery owner Carol Byrne.

“It’s not just oil paintings and water colours. We frame virtually anything - photographs, certificates, needlework, acrylics, sports shirts, memorabilia, items of clothing, tapestries and Chinese embroideries, to give just a few examples.

“We recently turned a piece of Victorian needlework, a family heirloom passed down through several generations, into a decorative fire screen - art is that diverse.

“Our framers were trained to Fine Art Trade Guild standards and use conservation methods and acid-free materials to preserve artwork for future generations.”

Yarm Gallery has more than doubled in size since opening nearly four years ago and now displays over two floors more than 350 pieces of original art and limited edition prints, as well as sculptures, glasswork, jewellery and photography. It now employs six people.

Adds Carol: “How to display art is an art in itself and we provide a home consultation service whereby people can see their chosen piece in their home before they buy it. Similarly, anyone wanting advice on how best to frame a piece of artwork can chat to one of our art and framing consultants.

“You’d be amazed how many framing projects are spur-of-the-moment or last-minute. Bringing the Framing Centre into the same building means we can now offer a much faster service - and can reframe artwork to match a change of décor, or damage to the mount, frame or glass.”

Artists can now have mount boards cut to order in minutes, have box canvas frames made to order and can buy their framing materials from the Framing Centre.

Yarm Gallery is currently hosting The Art of Landscapes, a mini exhibition of landscape paintings by various artists, but in May launches its new season of major showcases with an exhibition of figurative art by such international artists as Hamish Blakely and Fabian Perez.

The gallery is open Monday to Saturday, 10am to 5pm, and can be contacted on 01642 789432. Visit www.yarmgallery.co.uk for more information.
