TWO trainees are embarking on career development programmes with Middlesbrough’s biggest independent accountancy practice.

Martin Pollard, 21, from Stockton, is being sponsored by Chipchase Manners to train towards becoming a chartered accountant.

Martin joined the firm two years ago, after a year with another Teesside accountancy practice, and recently qualified as an accounting technician after a three-year Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) training programme.

He now commences three years of studies towards qualification as a chartered accountant, through international training organisation Kaplan Financial.

Amy Lawton, 18, a former pupil at Stokesley School, begins working towards her AAT qualification through the North-East Chamber of Commerce in September.

A general accountancy practice, Chipchase Manners employs 30 people at its offices in Linthorpe Road, Middlesbrough.

Managing partner Graeme Boagey: “Chipchase Manners is proud that its growth and success has largely been achieved by investing in talented young people. We recruit trainees at various levels - Martin joined us after gaining some experience with a local firm, Amy has joined us straight from sixth form, and it is our intention later in the year to recruit a university graduate.”

Chipchase Manners is this year celebrating the centenary of its founding by Charles Chipchase. Staff are using the landmark anniversary to raise funds for a number of local and national charities. Matthew Waters one of the firm’s trainee accountants is to complete a sponsored walk raising funds for prostate cancer research by walking from the west coast to Nunthorpe starting on July 17, 2008.
