Sport and comedy on menu for youth charity
August 6th, 2008 by Julie
SPORT and comedy will be on the menu at a sportsman’s dinner in aid of a North-East inner city youth charity.
Television presenter Jeff Stelling will provide the main course of entertainment at the inaugural Fairbridge Charity Sportsman’s Dinner. (www.fairbridge.org.uk)
TV star and comedian Kevin Connelly will serve up a side dish of laughs, while former Sunderland footballer and club manager Len Ashurst - now an FA-appointed match delegate - will spice up the evening with a light-hearted look at the beautiful game, and other sports, through a compilation of ‘never seen before’ video out-takes.
A number of Boro stars from past and present will also attend, meeting and mixing with those attending the event.
The event will take place at Tall Trees, Yarm on Thursday, November 6.
Fairbridge Teesside is one of nine Fairbridge operations based in the UK’s poorest areas, focussing on keeping young people in education and training and off the streets.
The event coincides with the charity’s move into a new training centre beside Middlesbrough’s iconic Transporter Bridge.
Fairbridge Regional chairman Andy Preston says the charity was delighted when Soccer Saturday host Jeff Stelling agreed to compere the evening.
He says: “Jeff Stelling was born in Hartlepool and famously ranted on air in defence of Teesside when it was branded one of the worst places to live in the UK by a television programme. Since then, he has enjoyed cult status in his home region.
“Fairbridge does amazing work in Teesside, helping young people to turn their lives around. It involves the youngsters in a programme of activities and learning designed to develop core personal, social and work-based skills.”
As well as the entertainment, the evening will include a grand auction, with an amazing selection of lots - including a helicopter taxi ride!
A table for 10 costs £590, which includes arrival drinks, three-course meal and the entertainment.
Early booking is recommended. Please call Fairbridge Teesside on 0779 1997410 or email neil@nhpevents.co.uk
